Our thoughts are incredibly powerful.
They shape how we see ourselves, how we see others, and how we see the world around us.
They influence how we feel and, in turn, how we show up in our day-to-day.
If we have lots of negative thoughts, beliefs, and stories about ourselves and our bodies, it can make any healthy behavior-change efforts feel like a losing battle.
How have you been thinking and feeling about yourself lately?
Have your thoughts been uplifting?
Encouraging?
Supportive?
If not, let’s change that right now.
But first, one caveat:
Have you ever attempted repeating positive affirmations that you didn’t quite believe?
Perhaps it felt like you were deluding yourself.
Maybe you even felt a bit silly.
I’m not a fan of repeating affirmations that feel out of touch with who you are or your beliefs about yourself.
I don’t think that’s helpful.
The key is to find ones that you can connect to in this moment right now.
Connecting to an affirmation should elicit an emotional response in your body (ideally positive).
Like you can stand firmly behind it.
Like it could be true.
This matters because when you change the way you feel, it can change what you do, aka the actions you take.
For example…
When I regularly tell myself that I am strong and capable, and I believe it, it allows me to persevere when I’m feeling lazy or want to quit on myself rather than see something through.
Or…
When I feel truly grateful for all my body has done for me and allowed me to do in this life (and I make a point of reminding myself regularly), it strengthens my desire to care for it through the choices I make.
Below you’ll find a collection of body-positive affirmations.
Choose one or two that resonate most deeply for you.
(Or rephrase them in a way that makes them believable for you.)
Practice speaking them over yourself, in your heart and mind, or say them out loud.
Repeat them throughout the day.
Try writing them on sticky notes or in a journal where you’re sure to see them.
You can even set them as reminders on your phone so they pop up during your day (if helpful).
As you come into agreement with them, you might be pleasantly surprised by how you start to think, feel, and show up differently.
